Cavalera Conspiracy, August Burns Red - Infliktour
There were a couple of interesting metal gigs in Holland on June 18th such as 36 Crazyfists and Baroness, yet the choice to witness Cavalera Conspiracy’s only clubshow on Dutch soil was easily made since this might still only be a project, so the chances to see them live in the future might not be that big. In any case, Sledgehammer and yours truly went off to Amsterdam. Destination: thrashin’ popchurch Paradiso!

August Burns Red from Lancaster, Pennsylvania was the only supporting act tonight. They’re fairly well known in the metalcore scene, yet I was still surprised to see a band from that genre playing with the legendary Cavalera brothers. Their show started quite messy with a wall of sound that could not have been their intention, but fortunately that problem was solved after a couple of songs. However, a decent sound isn’t a guarantee for a good show and/or good music. It was clear that the audience wasn’t waiting for some cliché metalcore, except for a few kids that apparently came to see
this specific band. August Burns Red at least did their best with an energetic appearance, although I think that they would’ve made more friends during a smaller tour with similar bands than during a big tour like this. The cold, harsh proof for that; a lonely frontman behind a small merchandise stand at the end of the evening... (Mindsaver)

The big question was whether the Cavalera brothers would give value for your money tonight. I had my doubts, but it turned out that I was wrong. Of course many, if not all, new songs from the newly released record Inflikted were played ferociously, but it didn’t stop there. ‘Cause no, they didn’t only just play the obvious Sepultura songs like ‘Territory’. There was a whole range of old songs like ‘Orgasmatron’ and even a Nailbomb song. Of course, family man as he is, Max let both his sons on stage. We all already knew Richie, who sung along many times and I’m getting really fed up with this since his screams are totally not strong enough. Even that huge echo on the mic can’t help that. What really was a good surprise was his son Igor (indeed named after Max’s brother) - who must be around 11 years old - filling in on drums on ‘Troops of Doom’! Great to see and it still sounded good enough to headbang to. ‘Arise’ was played a bit too fast, but as for the rest, I’m totally positive about the show. Max and Igor played an intense and awesome gig which lasted long enough to go homewards
satisfied. And indeed, you already know with which song they ended their performance tonight. (Sledgehammer Messiah)
